Advancing Governance. CAF Partners with Key Legal Institutions.

The County Assemblies Forum (CAF) took a significant step to enhance legislative processes and governance at the county level through strategic partnerships with leading legal institutions in Kenya.

The Forum in its engagement with the National Council of Law Reporting (NCLR) agreed to partner on the following key areas.

  1. Strengthening Bill Tracking Systems. Enhancing the efficiency and transparency of legislative tracking in County Assemblies.
  2. Enhancing Access to Legal Information. Providing better access to legal resources for informed decision-making.
  3. Developing a Case Law Digest. Creating a comprehensive digest to guide County Assemblies on procedures and practices.
  4. Strengthening Public Participation. Improving mechanisms for public involvement in the legislative process.
  5. Capacity Building. Training County Assemblies on policy formulation and legislative drafting to foster robust legislation.

During the month, the Forum also engaged the Kenya Law Reforms Commission and identified the following key partnership areas.

  1. Joint Capacity Building Initiatives. Training Members of County Assemblies and legislative drafters to enhance their skills.
  2. Development and Adaptation of Model Laws. Creating model laws for uniformity and consistency across counties.
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation. Assessing the impacts of legislations to ensure they meet their objectives.
  4. Enhancing Citizen Engagement. Promoting accountability and involvement of citizens in governance.

These partnerships are set to significantly enhance the legislative and governance processes at the county level. By leveraging the expertise of NCLR and KLRC, CAF aims to ensure more efficient, transparent, and effective legislative operations
