Breaking Barriers, Leading Change: Women Legislators Convene in Embu

The inaugural Women Legislators Conference, held on 4–5 March 2026 at Embu University in Embu County, brought together Women MCAs from all 47 counties and key stakeholders to advance inclusive leadership and gender equality in Kenya’s devolved governance system.

Held under the theme “Advancing Justice and Leading Change: Breaking Structural Barriers to Secure Inclusive Leadership and Equal Opportunities for All,” the conference brought together Women Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) from all 47 counties, alongside male gender advocates, parliamentary caucuses, independent commissions, development partners, civil society, and academia.
Despite persistent heavy rains throughout the two-day gathering, participants turned up in remarkable numbers—undaunted and determined. Their presence, in the face of challenging weather conditions, spoke volumes about their commitment to advancing gender equality and strengthening their role in legislative leadership. The resilience displayed became a defining symbol of the conference.
