County Assemblies Strengthen Role in Climate Governance through FLLoCA Sensitization Workshop.

The County Assemblies Forum (CAF), in partnership with the State Department for Devolution and the Financing Locally Led Climate Action (FLLoCA) Programme Secretariat, convened a sensitization workshop aimed at deepening the role of County Assemblies in climate governance.

The workshop brought together the Chairs of County Assembly Environment Committees and Assembly Clerks from across the country to enhance their understanding and participation in the FLLoCA programme. Discussions centered on the critical role of County Assemblies in climate action, specifically in legislating for climate resilience, integrating climate priorities into county budgets, and providing effective oversight and public engagement in climate-related initiatives.

CAF reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the capacity development of Members of County Assemblies (MCAs) to ensure they are equipped to champion climate-responsive policies at the county level. This includes fostering stronger partnerships with oversight and accountability institutions to ensure transparent and impactful implementation of climate interventions.

As counties continue to face the pressing realities of climate change, MCAs present at the forum committed to translating the insights gained into concrete action. This includes ensuring that climate priorities are effectively mainstreamed into County Integrated Development Plans (CIDPs), Annual Development Plans (ADPs), and budget estimates.

The workshop served as a timely reminder that empowering county legislatures is central to achieving sustainable, locally-led climate solutions that resonate with the needs of communities on the frontlines of climate change.
