CAF, in collaboration with ODPC, conducted a three-day capacity development workshop on data protection. The training is aimed at equipping officers with essential knowledge and skills in data protection, highlighting the growing importance of safeguarding personal data in governance and public service.
The County Assemblies Forum (CAF), CEO, Ms. Lonah Losem, paid a courtesy call to the Data Protection Commissioner, Ms. Immaculate Kassait, during the workshop. Ms. Losem expressed her gratitude to the ODPC for spearheading the training initiative, noting its critical role in ensuring counties comply with data protection laws and adopt best practices in managing personal data.
The ODPC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting counties through continuous capacity-building programs. Future training sessions will include officers from key departments such as Records, Hansard, and Legal Affairs, ensuring a holistic approach to data governance across county operations.
In her remarks, Ms. Kassait commended the counties for their proactive response to the call for training, emphasizing the global significance of data protection. “Data protection is a critical issue worldwide, and this training equips counties to align with international standards and safeguard the rights of citizens,” she said.
The collaboration between ODPC and counties marks a significant step toward promoting accountability, transparency, and secure data management in Kenya’s devolved system of governance.
